Functional Electrical Stimulation

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) employs electric impulses to stimulate paralyzed or weakened muscles, increasing the strength, coordination, and recovery of motor power. It is usually applied in SCI, stroke, and post-orthopedic patients. Rehab programs under guidance from physiatrists and therapists optimize functional recovery, increase independence, and facilitate engagement in everyday activities. FES reduces rehabilitation time and improves patient quality of life.
